Greetings Fellow Runners –

This weekend marks the first race of 2017 for many of us, the Cary March Madness Half Marathon. The weather is always a variable for this race. I’ve run it in shorts and short sleeves and also in single digit wind chills. This Sunday’s weather looks pretty decent for racing – mid 30s to mid 40s. What isn’t a variable are the hills. They make this race unique for the Chicago area and hard. Good luck to everyone running it. Please look for your fellow NSDRC members in the cafeteria, where gear check is located, before the race.

Last week’s and this week’s run – Last week’s run was cold, windy, and long. I found it especially tough mentally into the wind on the long stretch along the Skokie Valley bike path. This week’s run will be warmer and shorter. For those not racing in Cary, it will be a 10.9 mile cutback run along the Reverse Lakefront Bridge Loop. There won’t be a newsletter emailed next week, so I’ll list the mileage and routes for the march 25th...

Greetings Fellow Runners –

I’ve been playing catch up since returning from Colorado. I’m finally caught up so it’s time to get to business with this week’s newsletter.

Last week’s and this week’s run – I hope that everyone had a good long run last Saturday. My weather app indicated that there was some light snow which was a different experience than we’ve had all winter. I’ll share my significantly different experience from my long run last Saturday in the closing. This week’s run should be winter like as well, starting with the coldest temps we’ve had this winter – 16F. The routes and mileage for this Saturday are below:

Boston / Illinois – 20 miles – Southern Trail plus Skokie Valley Loop.

Flying Pig / Wisconsin – 20 miles – Southern Trail plus Skokie Valley Loop.

Cary Half – 8.8 mile taper run - Southern Trail, staying on the bike trail to the train station.

Hydration – Thanks to Joan Rush, Paul Jenrow, and Kim Wagner for hydration...
